Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Music Forest.
Effective date: July 25, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a contract between you and Music Forest
LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company ("we", "us") governing your use of the Music Forest service
at musicforest.lol and its related apps (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to
these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the
Service.
1What the Service is
Music Forest is a field notebook for your listening life. It helps you
notice, reflect on, and connect albums, and it links out to third-party music platforms where
you can listen. It is not a music-streaming service and does not host or provide music.
2Accounts, sign-in, and text messages
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. If you create an account, you agree to
provide accurate information, to keep your Notebook password and recovery code secure,
and that you are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at
info@musicforest.lol if you suspect unauthorized use.
Encryption and recovery. Your notebook is end-to-end encrypted with a key derived from a
Notebook password only you hold. At signup you are shown a recovery code, which is
the only reset path for a lost Notebook password. This means if you lose both your Notebook
password and your recovery code (and haven't enabled device unlock), we cannot recover your
notebook or reset access to its contents. You accept this trade-off as a condition of the
privacy the Service provides.
Text messages (SMS). If you add a mobile phone number, you agree to receive one-time
sign-in codes by text from Music Forest. These are transactional messages, sent only when you
request a sign-in code, so message frequency depends on you. Message and data rates may
apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time (you can still sign in by email) or
HELP for help. We do not share mobile numbers or information gathered through text
messaging with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes — see the
Privacy Policy. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered
messages.
3Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law or infringe others' rights using the Service;
- access, probe, or disrupt the Service, its infrastructure, or other users' data without
authorization (including circumventing the encryption, rate limits, RLS, or security
controls);
- attempt to access data that isn't yours, or reverse the sync/auth layer to impersonate
another user;
- upload malware, or use the Service to store or transmit unlawful content;
- scrape, overload, or make automated bulk requests beyond normal personal use; or
- misuse the feedback or invite-request channels (e.g. spam, or submitting others' personal
information).
We may suspend or terminate access that violates these Terms or that threatens the Service or
other users.
4Your content
You own what you write. Your notebook — your notes, the records you keep, connections,
and marks — is yours. We do not claim ownership of it. Because it is end-to-end encrypted,
we can't read it; we only store and sync the encrypted data so you can use it across devices,
and we process it solely to provide the Service to you.
Feedback. If you send us feedback, you grant us permission to use it to operate and
improve the Service. As explained in the Privacy Policy, feedback (including any screenshot or
page snapshot you send) is readable by us — send only what you're comfortable sharing.
Export and deletion. You can export your notebook at any time, delete individual
entries, and delete your entire account and its data yourself from the account menu (or by
asking us), as described in the Privacy Policy.
5Our content and intellectual property
The Service itself — its software, design, text, and branding (including the name "Music
Forest" and the musicforest.lol identity) — is
owned by Music Forest LLC or its licensors and is protected by
intellectual property laws. These Terms don't grant you any right to our name, logo, or
branding beyond using the Service as intended.
Album metadata and cover art are provided by third-party sources (including the Discogs data
dump, MusicBrainz, the Cover Art Archive, and Apple), and remain subject to their respective
rights and licenses. We credit these sources in the app and use their data in accordance with
their terms.
6Third-party platforms and links ("doors")
The Service links out to third-party music platforms — including Spotify, Apple Music,
YouTube Music, Deezer, TIDAL, Amazon Music, Pandora, and Bandcamp — so you can listen
there. We don't control these platforms, don't endorse them, and aren't responsible for
them — their content, availability, pricing, accuracy of a given link, or their terms and
privacy practices. A "Listen on …" link is a convenience, not a guarantee that a title is
available on that service. Your use of any third-party platform is governed by that platform's
own terms.
7Availability, changes, and beta status
The Service is provided on an ongoing but as-available basis and may currently be in a
beta or invite-only phase. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features (or the whole
Service) at any time, and we may impose limits or require re-authentication. We aim to give
reasonable notice of material changes but can't always. We are not liable for any
unavailability, or for data loss caused by factors outside our reasonable control — please use
the export feature to keep your own backup of anything important to you.
8Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind,
whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability,
fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the
Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, that defects will be corrected, or that
any data (including third-party album data or availability links) is accurate or complete. Some
jurisdictions don't allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of the above may not apply to
you.
9Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will Music Forest LLC
be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive
damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use
of (or inability to use) the Service, even if advised of the possibility. To the maximum extent
permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the
greater of the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the claim (which,
during the free beta, is $0) or USD $100. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so
some of the above may not apply to you, and nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited
by law.
10Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Music Forest LLC from
claims arising out of your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms or of law or
third-party rights.
11Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate
your access if you materially violate these Terms, or if we discontinue the Service. On
termination, your right to use the Service ends; you can export your notebook beforehand, and
you may ask us to delete your account data as described in the Privacy Policy. Sections that by
their nature should survive termination (e.g. content ownership, disclaimers, limitation of
liability, governing law) will survive.
12Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms; we'll update the effective date and, for material changes, give more
prominent notice. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the
updated Terms.
13Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, USA, without regard to
conflict-of-laws rules, and the state and federal courts located in Connecticut will have
exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory local consumer-protection law provides
otherwise.
14Miscellaneous
These Terms (with the Privacy Policy) are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the
Service. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our not enforcing a
provision isn't a waiver. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them to a successor.
